Selena Gomez didn’t need to go runnin’ through the jungle to get to you, Benny Blanco.
Because as it turns out, the “Wolves” singer and the music producer—who’ve collaborated on hits like “Single Soon” and “I Can’t Get Enough”—were actually first introduced more than a decade before they started dating.
“We both met each other like almost 16, 17 years ago,” Benny revealed in an April interview with SiriusXM Hits 1. “Obviously, we made a bunch of songs together. But before we had made any music together, I was one of her big meetings—like right around when she was just leaving Disney to make her own music. Neither one of us remembered the meeting, but her mom remembered it.”
And even after they reconnected years later, Benny didn’t expect their relationship to shift from platonic to romantic.
“It was so crazy,” he said a month later on The Howard Stern Show. “When we went out on our first date, I didn’t even know it was a date.”
Since confirming their relationship on Instagram in December, Selena has given fans glimpses into her bond with Benny through peeks into their date nights, sharing PDA pics, revealing who said “I love you” first (spoiler alert: it was her) and posting sweet shout-outs.
“Your emotional endurance, positive disposition, unbelievable talent (that blows me away), undeniable humor and loving, kind heart absolutely kill me,” Selena wrote in a tribute for his 36th birthday in March. “I love you @itsbennyblanco.”
And she’s made it clear this isn’t some same old love.
“It’s the safest that I feel, and it’s been really lovely,” the 31-year-old told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe in February. “And I’ve only grown through it.”
Benny has also expressed his hope to grow a family with Selena one day.
“When I look at her,” he added to Howard Stern, “I’m always just like, ‘I don’t know a world where it could be better than this.’”
For now, keep reading to learn more about Selena and Benny’s relationship.
The two began dating in late July 2023, around Selena's birthday, Benny said on the Howard Stern Show in May 2024.
But they only began to spark romance rumors in late 2023. That December, Selena confirmed the speculation, commenting on a fan page's Instagram post, regarding Benny, "He is my absolute everything in my heart."
She continued, "Why has he been the best thing that's ever happened to me. He's still better than anyone I've ever been with."
The Rare Beauty founder also shared a photo on her Instagram Story of her leaning her head on what looked to be Benny's chest.
Selena later shared this pic on her Instagram Stories, which shows her wearing a bejeweled "B" ring.
