It's that time of year when crowds flock to various state fairs around the U.S. to enjoy the rides, see the animals, enter into competitions and of course, indulge in deep-fried food heaven.
State fair foods are a steadfast part of American culture, appearing every summer. For many of these foods, oil and deep fryers are a necessity and the stranger they are, the better. Think of the iconic deep-fried Oreos and Twinkies found at nearly every fair and carnival.
Some vendors at state fairs go all out, aiming for combinations of weird, wacky and wonderful. Here are some of the most unique and delicious foods appearing at state fairs across the country this year.
